Kentucky has added another elite name to its 2028 recruiting board, extending a scholarship offer to one of the nation’s fastest-rising young prospects.
Head coach Mark Pope and assistant coach Mo Williams personally delivered the offer to four-star forward Benji Berrouet during a video call on Tuesday, signaling that the Wildcats view him as one of their top priorities in the class.
Following the conversation, Berrouet shared his excitement on social media, saying he was grateful to receive a Division I offer from Kentucky after speaking with the Wildcats’ coaching staff.
The 6-foot-8 forward is regarded as one of the premier players in the 2028 class. Recruiting services rank him among the nation’s top prospects and as one of the best power forwards in his class, with many evaluators believing he has the potential to earn five-star status before his recruitment is complete.
Kentucky has been cautious with its 2028 scholarship offers, making Berrouet one of only a select group of players to receive one this early. That decision reflects just how highly Mark Pope’s staff thinks of his long-term potential.
Berrouet’s recruitment is already attracting attention from some of college basketball’s biggest programs. Schools including SMU, Oklahoma State, LSU, Arizona State, NC State, Vanderbilt, Baylor, USC, Texas A&M, UCLA, Michigan, and Georgia Tech have also entered the race for the talented forward.
His father recently praised the conversation with Kentucky’s coaching staff, describing the video call as energetic and saying Coach Pope was excited to officially welcome Benji into the Wildcats’ recruiting class with an offer.
The McKinney, Texas, native has been one of the most productive players on the Nike EYBL 16U circuit this summer while playing for AB Elite. Through his games, he has averaged 24.5 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest while shooting an impressive 57 percent from the field and 53 percent from three-point range.
His recent performances have only strengthened his reputation. Berrouet has recorded multiple 30-point outings, including a dominant 39-point, 10-rebound performance during an EYBL session in Kansas City.
He also impressed at the prestigious NBPA Top 100 Camp, where scouts highlighted his physical style of play, versatility, and ability to consistently impact games on both ends of the floor. While he can play multiple frontcourt positions, evaluators believe his energy, rebounding, and offensive skill set make him a difficult matchup regardless of where he lines up.
Berrouet is expected to suit up for Dynamic Prep in Irving, Texas, during the 2026-27 high school season. With Kentucky now officially in the picture, expect the Wildcats’ coaching staff to continue monitoring his development closely as one of their premier recruiting targets in the 2028 class.
