There is little question that Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are two modern day Liverpool legends.
The pair achieved amazing things together and individually while at the club, winning just about everything they possibly could.
However, while Salah continues to remain at the top of his game, Mane has declined markedly since leaving Anfield in 2022.
A move to Bayern Munich failed to go to plan and the Senegalese eventually left after just one season, joining Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
And as Salah weighs up the possibility of leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, Mane is proving something of a cautionary tale.
There were always rumblings that Mane and Salah did not get along brilliantly during their time together at Liverpool.
The two players often vied for headline status in the first-team squad, with Mane perhaps feeling outshone by the Egyptian on occasion.
However, since the former No.10’s exit, their careers couldn’t have been more stark.
They claim that Salah is now ‘desperate’ to extend his stay at Liverpool beyond the end of this season.
The ECHO report being told that ‘Salah doesn’t want to be like Sadio in Saudi Arabia, even if it means more money’ by sources close to the Egyptian.
Salah has reportedly weighed up the riches on offer against ‘the low crowds, a lack of worldwide attention and the overall standard of the game’ in the Middle East and decided that he’d much rather stay at Liverpool.
The 32-year-old and his family have reportedly spoken of how settled they are in Liverpool and Salah is said to now see his daughters as being ‘people of the city.’
Mohamed Salah determined to break Liverpool records
As well looking at the way Mane has declined since his move away from Liverpool, Salah is claimed to be driven by a determination to break more records.
It is said that a desire to get closer to Ian Rush’s title as top scorer in Liverpool history ‘burns bright’ in Salah and also reportedly wants to hit more targets in the Premier League, too.
Consequently, it is claimed that Salah’s intention is to stay at Liverpool beyond the end of his current contract.
This is enormous news for Liverpool, and now puts the ball very much in the court of the owners.
