The recruitment of the nation’s top high school basketball prospect may be reaching its final chapter. According to a report from Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman, five-star forward Tyran Stokes could be on the verge of announcing his college decision—potentially as soon as Monday—with Kentucky and Kansas emerging as the final contenders.
Stokes, a 6-foot-7 standout from Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, is widely regarded as the No. 1 player in the country per the 247Sports Composite rankings. His unique blend of size, skill, and versatility has made him one of the most sought-after recruits in recent memory. With a 7-foot wingspan and the ability to handle the ball, create plays, and score efficiently, Stokes offers the complete package of a modern forward.
Both Kentucky head coach Mark Pope and Kansas head coach Bill Self have made strong pushes to secure his commitment. Stokes previously took official visits to both programs, visiting Kentucky in June 2025 and Kansas in April 2025, before narrowing his list to five schools: Kentucky, Kansas, Oregon, Louisville, and USC.
During his senior season, Stokes delivered a dominant performance for Rainier Beach, leading the team to a 29-1 record and a Washington Class 3A state championship. He averaged an impressive 31 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals per game while shooting 53% from the field and 78% from the free-throw line. His outstanding play earned him the title of Washington High School Player of the Year.
In an effort to strengthen Kentucky’s chances, Mark Pope recently added former Wildcat star Jamal Crawford—who also has ties to Rainier Beach—to his staff. The move is widely seen as a strategic step to further connect with Stokes as the decision approaches.
Now, with an announcement potentially just days away, all eyes are on Stokes as he prepares to choose between two college basketball powerhouses.
