Liverpool have suffered an injury blow with a national team manager confirming that a player is struggling with a fitness problem.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool have kicked off the new Premier League season in emphatic style with three straight wins in a row for the Merseyside club including a dominant 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Liverpool were dominant in that victory over Erik ten Hag’s United with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah scoring the goals to hand the Merseyside club the victory.
Despite Liverpool making one first-team signing in the form of Federico Chiesa, the Reds look to be a new animal under former Feyenoord manager Slot.
Liverpool suffer Alexis Mac Allister injury blow
Following the 3-0 victory over United at Old Trafford on Sunday, Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister flew out to join up with the Argentina squad for the current international break.
Argentina, who won the 2024 Copa America during the summer, will take on Chile before travelling to Colombia for an away game before the end of the September international break.
Mac Allister may not be involved in the first match after he was unable to take part in the first training session out with his teammates and the national team coach Lionel Scaloni has provided an update on his fitness.
TyC Sports quote Argentina manager Scaloni explaining the situation at a press conference today: “Alexis didn’t train because he was overloaded, he was in pain. It always happens to us, they come out to do their part.
“We’ll wait and see how he responds today. It doesn’t change our way of playing much because we’ll stay the same, but it’s true that he gives us play, set pieces. The rest of the team is more or less decided.”
Losing Alexis Mac Allister would be a blow for Liverpool
All the talk following Liverpool’s victory over United was the performance of Ryan Gravenberch, who Phil Thompson hailed as ‘excellent’.
However, there could be an argument to say that Mac Allister was just as important to the team as Gravenberch was.
Liverpool will be hoping it’s nothing serious and that Mac Allister is fit, but they’ll also be keen to see that he isn’t risked so will probably prefer it if the midfielder isn’t on the pitch against Chile.
