Dominik Szoboszlai is the latest in Liverpool’s injury woes having missed Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal with a hamstring problem.
It was not a good day at the office for the Reds as they suffered their second Premier League defeat of the season. The win for Mikel Arteta’s side moved Liverpool to within two points with 15 games remaining. The gap between them and Manchester City is five points, but a win against Brentford on Monday could close the gap on the leaders.
Liverpool continued to see positive signs in the second half with Andy Robertson and Darwin Nunez coming on and Thiago Alcantara making his first appearance after a long absence since April. Trent Alexander-Arnold was substituted midway through the second half as he continued to improve his fitness following a knee injury suffered at the Emirates Stadium in January.
Ahead of the game, there were concerns about the Uruguayan forward’s health after Jurgen Klopp confirmed he picked up an ankle injury against Chelsea. He remained on the bench as the German called for inspiration to change his fortunes on London’s dreary nights.
Klopp’s side are set to face Burnley next Saturday after suffering a knock in the Premier League fixture. Gabriel’s own goal gave the visitors a chance to get back into the game, but Liverpool steamrolled in the capital.
In the second half, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker made mistakes and Arsenal earned a point by mistake. Gabriel Martinelli was unlucky to regain the lead and Leandro Trossard beat the Brazilian to win.
With Thiago, Robertson, Nunez, Alexander-Arnold and Kostas Tsimikas all returning to first-team training, Klopp’s options are getting stronger. However, there is no play after Ibrahima Konate is sent off for his second foul.

Comments have been abuzz on social media ahead of the Premier League match between Liverpool and Arsenal. Conflicting news has resurfaced after reports emerged that the Hungarian giants did not take part in the match against the Gunners.
The 23-year-old picked up a hamstring injury in the defeat in north London. Jurgen Klopp says a recurrence of the injury that ruled him out for five games at Liverpool could be to blame.
“Dom feels the same area where he was injured before,” Klopp confirmed “It wasn’t a game, but he played well, and after the game [I felt] so I saw him and now he didn’t have a chance to play in this game.
We can’t take any risks. We’ll have to wait for further assessment, but it looks like he won’t be there today.
Estimated Return Date: Unknown.
Mohamed salah
Mohamed Salah has not played for Liverpool since their convincing win over Newcastle United on January 1. After winning, he went to North Africa at the request of Egypt to win the Africa Cup of Nations, but suffered a hamstring injury in the second group match against Ghana and the tour was called off.
Salah initially missed two games. This means that the Salah will return once he has passed the first elimination round. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old’s injury problem has turned out to be more serious than initially feared and he will be sidelined for up to a month.
Estimated return date: Brentford (A)
Wataru Endo
Liverpool are preparing for the return of Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo. The 30-year-old failed to help the Blue Samurai win the Asian Cup as they lost in the quarter-finals to Iran.
He is expected to return to Merseyside in the coming days and could play in next week’s Premier League game with Burnley at Anfield.
Stefan Bajcetic
He had a strong debut season during a difficult time for the club, but suffered an adductor stress reaction in March that ended his season. Bajcetic returned to action in the Carabao Cup in September, but the match against LASK Linz was his last appearance following a calf problem.
The Spaniard is expected to return to training alongside Thiago in February as he prepares for his long-awaited comeback.
Estimated return date: February.
Joel Matip
He was sent off for offside in the 70th minute of a 4–3 win over Fulham on 3 December. “It was a torn cruciate ligament but unfortunately I expected that to happen from the start. Everything looked like this. “It’s very sad,” Jurgen Klopp said.
Estimated return date: Season 2024/25
