It’s the oldest saying in professional sports. If you win, everything will be covered. That seems to be the case with Title Town this season.
The Green Bay Packers, who overcame adversity and had a successful season advancing to the playoffs, seem content with the drama surrounding some of their key members.
One of the main points for the Packers this offseason is cornerback Jaire Alexander and his future with the team. All signs now point to a return to the Pro Bowl in 2024.
Packers trading CB Jair Alexander
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst addressed the state of the organization during a news conference Thursday. One of the topics discussed is Alexander’s future.
After an injury-riddled season in 2023, Alexander caused concern later that year when he was suspended for the team’s injury. After being named captain against the Panthers in Week 16, Alexander had to miss the next game against the Vikings.
“It was never a thing,” coach Matt LaFleur told the media, referring to Alexander’s antics. It was a big deal for Packers fans who were worried about losing their cornerback.
However, tensions between the parties appear to have eased. That could be due to the financial cost of moving him, as Alexander’s base cap greatly limits the Packers’ financial flexibility.
Green Bay signed Alexander to a four-year, $84 million deal last year, and the Packers would rather keep him than take a hit. Let’s hope 2024 marks a new beginning for the team and Alexandru’s relationship.
