The Green Bay Packers are the youngest team in the NFL in 2023 and made the playoffs last season. In the offseason, the Packers front office is ready to be aggressive so they can be a Super Bowl contender in 2024.
The Packers don’t have the same cap space in 2024 and are flush with money owed to David Bakhtiari ($40.01 million) and Aaron Jones ($17.02 million cap), but they are in the draft.
With five picks in the first three rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft, including two in the second and third rounds, the Packers front office is well positioned to be aggressive this offseason.
Typically, these picks are only used in the draft for teams whose philosophy is to develop and advance their players. But Green Bay left the door wide open for a successful trade opportunity thanks to comments he made at a recent press conference. Speaking to reporters ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft and discussing the team’s cap space, general manager Brian Gutekunst said Green Bay could move up the draft order or sign a veteran player this offseason.
He’ll stay, pick, trade and move, maybe even trade those picks for more experienced players.”Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst comments on the team’s draft capital flexibilityWith needs on both sides of the 2024 NFL Draft and a very strong upperclassman, moving up in the first round seems like a viable option.
But the ability to immediately add a winning player who can play at a high level and provide veteran leadership makes the Packers’ list of trade targets even wider. It’s important to be realistic when identifying potential picks for the Packers to acquire in 2024.
The Denver Broncos won’t move Patrick Surtain II or Justin Simmons until they reach the no. 1. Also, Super Bowl contenders don’t trade one of their best players.
