Kentucky basketball recruiting is starting to heat up as the fall season arrives, and Mark Pope appears ready for another busy stretch on the recruiting trail.
With the 2026-27 season approaching, Pope and his staff are already working to strengthen Kentucky’s future classes. The Wildcats have a number of important recruits on the radar, while several prospects are scheduled to make trips to Lexington in the coming weeks.
Pope was on the road Wednesday at Prolific Prep in Florida, where he watched two highly regarded 2027 prospects: five-star center Lewis Uvwo and five-star point guard Nasir Anderson.
Uvwo is particularly important for Kentucky right now. The 6-foot-11 center is scheduled to begin an official visit to Kentucky this weekend, giving Pope and his staff an opportunity to make a strong impression on one of the nation’s top big-man prospects.
Anderson is also expected to visit Lexington, with his Kentucky visit currently scheduled for October 5.
Kentucky already has an important piece of its 2027 recruiting class in four-star wing Ryan Hampton. The latest Rivals rankings have Hampton ranked No. 25 nationally, keeping him firmly among the country’s top recruits.
Pope, however, doesn’t appear interested in stopping there.
The Wildcats recently extended an offer to five-star AJ Williams after he reclassified into the 2027 class. Kentucky has also offered four-star seven-footer Akol Nyok, adding another intriguing frontcourt option to the recruiting board.
There has been some disappointing news as well. Top-30 guard Chase Lumpkin, who previously included Kentucky among his final six schools, announced his commitment to Alabama. That removes one significant target from Kentucky’s board.
Still, the Wildcats have plenty of recruiting momentum to build on.
Looking beyond the 2027 class, Kentucky is also positioning itself for the future. Five-star 2028 wing DJ Okoth is scheduled to visit Lexington for Big Blue Madness on October 2, giving BBN another highly rated prospect to watch.
With Hampton already committed and several elite prospects either holding Kentucky offers or planning visits, September could be the beginning of a very important stretch for Pope and his recruiting staff.
The message is becoming clear: Kentucky isn’t waiting around. Pope is continuing to expand the board, pursue elite talent and put the Wildcats in position to compete for some of the nation’s best players.
