Kentucky’s alumni team, La Familia, punched its ticket to the TBT Championship Game after defeating Kansas alumni squad JHX Hoops 78-65 in the Alumni Championship on Wednesday night. Fittingly, it was former Wildcat Archie Goodwin who delivered the game’s signature moment, knocking down a fadeaway jumper that sealed the victory and sent the Kentucky faithful into celebration.
The win didn’t come without adversity. Earlier in the tournament, head coach Jon Hood and general manager Twany Beckham had to navigate several roster challenges that threatened to derail the team’s championship hopes. Instead of folding under pressure, La Familia continued to improve with each game, developing chemistry and proving they were one of the toughest teams in the tournament.
Now, that resilience has them just one win away from capturing the TBT championship and the $2 million grand prize.
La Familia will now face the winner of the non-alumni semifinal between Davis Steel and The Mecca, with the championship game set to take place in Lexington. Playing for the title on Kentucky’s home court gives the Wildcats’ alumni a golden opportunity to finish an incredible summer in front of the best fans in college basketball.
