Just when it appeared Kerr Kriisa’s college basketball journey had come to an end, his name has returned to the headlines for reasons no one expected.
The former West Virginia, Kentucky, and Cincinnati guard has reportedly been arrested by the FBI in connection with an alleged multimillion-dollar fraud investigation. According to reports, the 25-year-old is expected to be extradited to West Virginia, where he is scheduled to appear in court next week.
At the time the reports surfaced, authorities had not released charging documents or publicly disclosed the specific allegations tied to the reported investigation. As a result, many questions surrounding the case remain unanswered.
For basketball fans, the news marks a dramatic turn in the story of one of college basketball’s most recognizable point guards. Kriisa built a reputation as a confident playmaker with deep shooting range, beginning his career at Arizona before transferring to West Virginia ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Despite suffering a season-ending hand injury, Kriisa made a significant impact for the Mountaineers. He started all 23 games he played, averaging 11.0 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.0 rebounds while serving as one of the team’s primary ball handlers.
He later transferred to Kentucky, where injuries again interrupted his season. A foot injury limited him to just nine appearances before he eventually finished his college career at Cincinnati, averaging 5.8 points and 3.0 assists during the 2025-26 campaign.
Kriisa had previously dealt with NCAA eligibility issues, serving a nine-game suspension at West Virginia after the NCAA determined he had received impermissible benefits during his time at Arizona. Even so, few expected his name to become part of a reported federal investigation.
Adding to the surprise, Kriisa had recently been announced as a member of Kentucky’s La Familia team for The Basketball Tournament, making the reported arrest all the more shocking for fans following his post-college career.
The legal process is only beginning. Officials have not released additional details about the reported case, and more information is expected once court documents become public. Until then, many of the questions surrounding the investigation remain unanswered.
As with any criminal case, the reported allegations have not been proven in court, and Kriisa is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
