Jamie Carragher has made his feelings clear about Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak amid links to Liverpool. The Reds are being credited with several potential new signings ahead of the January transfer window opening on Wednesday.
A report in The Telegraph over the weekend claimed that Liverpool had listed Isak as a potential transfer target as a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah, whose contract expires at the end of the season. However, the report added that Newcastle would demand a fee of around £150million before allowing the striker to leave St James’ Park.
Isak scored in a 2-0 win over Manchester United for the Magpies in the Premier League clash on Monday night. The header from a Lewis Hall cross was the Sweden international’s 13th goal of the season in all competitions and 12th in the Premier League.
Carragher interviewed Isak for Sky Sports after Newcastle’s win at Old Trafford, and the former Liverpool defender referenced the reported asking price from Newcastle.
“Alexander, I absolutely adore you,” said Carragher to Isak. “I think you’re a fantastic player and if I had £150m, I’d pay it to have you at any club.”
Carragher went on to explain why Isak is currently the best striker in the top flight, sending a message to clubs like Liverpool who have been linked with a move for the Sweden international’s signature. As well as the Reds, Arsenal have also been tipped to try and sign Isak in the months ahead.
