The website claims that scouts have been watching the Danish star, as the Reds consider strengthening their options in the middle of the park.
Frendrup is by no means the only target that the Merseyside club are looking at. It is believed that a move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi is being seriously explored.
There are, however, a couple of big obstacles that could prevent a deal from moving ahead. Zubimendi has shown no inclination that he wants to leave Sociedad.
Arsenal and Manchester United have both been linked with the Spanish international in recent weeks and neither are said to have had any luck in persuading the player to switch teams.
Zubimendi’s price tag could also be an issue. There is no incentive for Sociedad to sell him, especially if he isn’t desperate to move, so Liverpool may end up having to pay his release clause, which currently stands at €60m (£51.6m).
How much would Frendrup cost?
It was reported last month that Genoa had rejected a €25m (£21.5m) bid from an unnamed English team, so his asking price is clearly higher than that.
Even so, it looks like Frendrup would be a much cheaper option than Zubimendi, but you would still question whether he is at the level to play for a team like Liverpool.
What sort of player would Liverpool be signing?
The 23-year-old is very much an all-action midfielder, and Jacek Kulig, a writer for FootballTalentScout.net, has even described him as being similar to ex-Chelsea player N’Golo Kante:
“Frendrup reminds me of N’Golo Kante. Big comparison, I know, but they share some of the same traits. They are both not the biggest and most intimidating midfielders, but they are fast, great at reading the game, and they intercept almost everything. Both players are also good dribblers of the ball.”
