Portugal are ready to lock horns with Czechia in their opening Euro 2024 game of Group F on Tuesday and Diogo Jota might not start the game.
One of the most promising goalscorers of Liverpool, Diogo Jota, has joined the Portuguese national camp for Euro 2024.
As Os Navegadores start their Euro journey on Tuesday, fans are excited to watch the star players in action.
Portugal have a pretty heavy star-filled squad with big names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Rafael Leao, and Bernardo Silva to name a few.
Among all these big names and Roberto Martinez’s two-striker formation, it could be difficult for a few players to find their place on the teamsheet. And one such player is the Reds forward Jota.
Diogo Jota: Starter For Portugal?
The Portuguese forward had a decent 2023-24 season with Liverpool. Despite missing 19 games for the Reds in the season due to injuries, the 27-year-old scored 15 goals and 4 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions (stats via Transfermarkt).
Notably enough, in the buildup friendlies to the Euro competition, Jota scored a goal from the penalty spot against Finland in a 4-2 win and scored the only goal for the Portuguese side in a 2-1 loss to Croatia.
He also assisted Ronaldo coming from the bench in the ultimate friendly prior to this competition in a 3-0 win over Ireland.
These factors make him a likely starter in the Czechia game for the Portuguese national team. Him alongside Ronaldo will be a deadly combination of creativity and goalscoring in the front of Portugal
