Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist disagreed over whether Mohamed Salah would make a Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal combined XI – with Stelling insisting he accepts he’d get a “battering” from Reds supporters over his decision.
Stelling and McCoist were drafting a combined ‘Premier League Title Race XI’ and disagreed over who should fill the position on the right side of attack, Salah or Bukayo Saka. The 31-year-old Egyptian has tallied the most goals and assists for Liverpool in the Premier League this season, with the Reds sitting one and two points ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal respectively.
In North London, meanwhile, Saka has fallen just shy of the Egyptian’s goal contributions, totalling 13 goals and 10 assists after 27 Premier League games and is looking to spearhead Arsenal to a first Premier League title since 2003.
However, talkSPORT host Stelling insists he would rather have Saka in his team over Salah, even if Liverpool fans would be quick to disagree. However, McCoist, who enjoyed a glittering career with Rangers, refused that idea.
“How you possibly aren’t playing Salah is remarkable!,” said McCoist. “I’m playing Salah on the right, (Erling) Haaland through the middle and (Phil) Foden, in current form, he might be the best player in the country.”
Stelling replied: “Haaland and Foden go without saying. I’ve gone with Saka rather than Salah, I just think Saka has been sensational. Look, the stats, there isn’t much to pick between them.
“I’ve gone for the exuberance of youth. Saka has got age on his side and that’s why I’ve gone for him above Salah. But I accept I’m going to get a battering from Liverpool fans.”
