Gary Neville has given his verdict on Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez after he scored a late winner against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground this past weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool edged past Nuno’s Nottingham Forest 1-0 away from home in the Premier League this past Saturday.
Darwin Nunez scored the only goal of the match in the ninth minute of injury time. Alexis Mac Allister provided the assist.
Gary Neville comments on Darwin Nunez goal for Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest
It was a hugely controversial goal, but former Manchester United right-back and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has noted how smart and clever Nunez was in scoring it.
The pundit has said that he does not consider the 24-year-old Uruguay international striker as very smart or very subtle in his game, but he was surprised by the way he scored against Forest.
Neville said about Nunez’s goal on his podcast: “There was a lovely little bit of movement from Nunez to connect with Mac Allister’s pass, that little look-up from Mac Allister, he just sees him and then he clips it in.
“But what Nunez make that run, that little sort of dart in behind, and I sometimes think of Nunez as not being the smartest, not being the most subtle in his game, but that was really a good goal that, really sort of good striker movement.”
My View: Darwin Nunez is an important player for Liverpool
In my opinion, Darwin Nunez is one of the most important players for Liverpool and will play a big role for the Reds in the coming weeks and months.
Liverpool are aiming to win the Premier League title this season, and I think that Nunez will play his part in that quest.
The 24-year-old striker has scored 10 goals and given seven assists in 16 starts and nine substitute appearances in the league for the Reds.
Nunez also helped Liverpool in their successful Carabao Cup run. The striker scored one goal and gave three assists in two starts and three substitute appearances in the competition.
Liverpool are looking to win the UEFA Europa League and the FA Cup as well, and I think that Nunez will play his role in those competitions as well.
