Nuno Espirito Santo admits Nottingham Forest have only themselves to blame for their controversial defeat to Liverpool – as he refused to comment on referee Paul Tierney.
Substitute Darwin Nunez scored in the ninth minute of injury-time to earn a dramatic 1-0 win for the Reds at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.
Forest were unhappy Liverpool had been given possession moments earlier when the game was stopped due to a head injury to Ibrahima Konate with the home team on the attack.
The post-match recriminations saw Forest first-team coach Steven Reid sent off and owner Evangelos Marinakis angrily prowling the pitch.
But Forest boss Nuno said: “I will not comment on the referee. Don’t insist. Honestly, don’t insist on that. We talk about the game. We have been speaking over and over again and I hope decisions will become better. Let’s move forward. I have not seen the referee (after the game), no.
“We are proud of the boys, they worked very hard, they helped each other and covered and did everything right until the last moment. We didn’t take our chances and we got punished.
“The last action of the game required better decisions from us to clear the ball. Of course we should improve but we can improve in the training ground and keep repeating until we get it right.”
Nuno added: “We played a very good game and limited Liverpool, a very good team with fantastic players and a very good manager. We had chances, it was a good game of football. We had clear chances to score. We played good but we should have been more clinical.
“We controlled the middle of the park and covered the triangles on the sides and the midfield controlled the box and when we had the ball we went forward and got space and wanted to take advantage of Anthony Elanga’s speed.
“Then we changed the team and had a little bit more support with Taiwo Awoniyi. It worked well and we had moments of good football. It’s tough to take.”
