Where would Liverpool be without Darwin Nunez? The Uruguayan returned on Saturday as a substitute against Nottingham Forest and popped up to deliver a 98th-minute winner.
That was unquestionably the big story of the day – but it wasn’t the only one. Alisson Becker has a ‘serious’ injury, says Jurgen Klopp, and may not be around for a while.
Here’s our Liverpool FC news recap.
LIVERPOOL LEAVE IT LATE
Everyone believed Liverpool had dropped points at Nottingham Forest – a fourth game in quick succession mid-injury crisis just looked like a step too far. But then the returning Darwin Nunez flicked home Alexis Mac Allister’s cross for 1-0.
Liverpool beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Saturday thanks to a 98th-minute Darwin Nunez winner. The Uruguayan has a knack for that, it seems.
It continues an incredible run of form from Liverpool, who have won five on the bounce now. Four of those have come without a break, too, with the Brentford clash two weeks ago followed by a midweek game against Luton Town. Then came the Carabao Cup final the following Sunday, then the FA Cup vs Southampton three days after that.
And now Forest away – and another win. But simply saying they’re all wins is understating it as Liverpool have had to do this during a surreal injury crisis.
The Reds have been without vital, first-name-on-the-teamsheet players throughout and really felt up against it in all four. Somehow, they’ve won them all – something Jurgen Klopp feels was ‘impossible’.
“If you’d told me 12 days ago we would win all four games I would have said no chance, it was impossible,” he told the BBC. “In the circumstances winning the games is ridiculous.”
