Liverpool have made two changes to their Europa League squad ahead of facing Sparta Prague in the round-of-16 next week.
Adrian has been added to the Reds 23-man squad for the knockout stages, having been left out for the first half of the season. Joel Matip has been dropped as a result to make room for the veteran goalkeeper.
Jurgen Klopp has left out the Cameroonian after he was ruled out until the end of the campaign after suffering an ACL injury in December. He is the only one of the club’s injured players to miss out as they continue to navigate a crippling injury crisis.
Liverpool are not allowed more than 17 non-homegrown players in their quota, meaning they had to drop a player if they wished to include Adrian.
The Spaniard’s inclusion is a boost for the Reds in the ongoing absence of Alisson Becker, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury. Caoimhin Kellher is currently first-choice in goal as a result, with the Brazilian not expected back until next month at the earliest.
Goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros remains named in the updated squad that UEFA have published on their website, despite joining Sturm Graz on loan in January. Marcelo Pitaluga and Luke Chambers are also still listed on List B as eligible Under-21s despite departing for St. Pats Athletic and Wigan Athletic on loan.
Liverpool aren’t actually required to confirm their ‘List B’ players until 24:00 CET the day before a match. Consequently, they could still make further changes to their squad before facing Sparta Prague on Thursday, with in-form youngster Jayden Danns a possible inclusion next week as a result.
