Luke Littler has had quite the time recently and he’s not too surprised to hear Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp talking about him.
Klopp compared his young players who helped the Reds win last weekend’s Carabao Cup final, to Littler, branding him the ‘new darts sensation’ in the process. The teenager made a splash at the World Championships during Christmas and now he is the face of darts in the UK.
Even though he’s a big Manchester United fan, he didn’t mind Klopp comparing him to Liverpool’s young stars. Littler shared: “I actually watched the final and the young lads are doing well, but if he wants to compare them to me then he can.”
He added: “I actually woke up and someone told me that he compared me to his young lads, so I went online and watched the video. I gave it a like and went on to the next video. That was literally another day in my life.”
Now, Littler is playing in the big leagues of darts and doing well. On Friday, he played well in his first game at Butlin’s in Minehead.
He averaged over 100 and produced four 100-plus finishes, including the 170 checkout known as the ‘Big Fish’, as he beat James Wade 10-7. With another top player out of the competition, Littler might just win the tournament but he is not getting ahead of himself.
“I have not even thought about it, but I know if my game is there every match then I don’t see why I can’t win it,” he said.
“I don’t mind who I play. It is what I dreamed of, playing in front of thousands every week, I take it in my stride.”
