Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai returned to training this week but Mohamed Salah is set to miss Liverpool’s trip to Nottingham Forest.
Wataru Endo, Andy Robertson and Alexis Mac Allister will also face their respective races to be fit for the Premier League encounter. Endo left Wembley Stadium with a protective boot after Sunday’s 1-0 Carabao Cup final over Chelsea but appears to have shaken off an injury concern, Robertson and Mac Allister have had their preparations hampered through illness.
Salah will miss Saturday’s clash against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as he recovers from the issue he picked up in light of the 4-1 win away at Brentford.
Jurgen Klopp’s injury issues are beginning to show signs of improvement but Ryan Gravenberch is the latest absentee after suffering an ankle ligament injury against Chelsea. The German is likely to call upon the likes of Jayden Danns, Lewis Koumas, James McConnell and Bobby Clark for the trip to Nottingham after their impressive showings in recent weeks.
The Reds manager revealed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be out for an extended period with a serious muscle injury. Although, he added that the problem will not be season-ending with the Premier League title race hanging in balance.
Speaking on Friday, Klopp said: “Darwin and Dom trained yesterday with the team. So, they looked good, but we have to wait [to see] how they react. Wataru and Robbo didn’t, but there is the plan that they join in today, that’s the idea but we have to see if that really works out.
“Ibou [Ibrahima Konate], nothing, it [him not starting against Southampton] was just time-sharing. Lucho [Luis Diaz] is fine, Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] is fine. They all look fine.
“The little problem, we couldn’t know about, is that Macca was ill for one-and-a-half days I would say and Robbo had the same thing, so hopefully that didn’t spread now. So far I didn’t hear anything [but] I didn’t ask because I don’t want to know probably! So, we will see.
“I don’t think Mo is too far off, but he will not feature tomorrow and from there we have to go. It’s like touch and go but I think next week at any point it is possible. He is on the way back, definitely, but not there yet.”
Question marks remain over the fitness of Endo, Robertson and Mac Allister following their recent returns back to first-team training. The likes of Thiago Alcantara, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Stefan Bajcetic, Alisson Becker, Ben Doak, Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota and Joel Matip all remain sidelined.
