Paul Merson has predicted how Nuno’s Nottingham Forest will fare against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the City Ground this weekend.
The former Arsenal and Aston Villa star has predicted three goals in the Premier League match between Forest and Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.
So, what has Paul Merson said about Nottingham Forest against Liverpool? Let’s take a look.
Paul Merson backs Liverpool to win vs Nottingham Forest
Well, Paul Merson has been looking ahead to the Premier League match between Nottingham Forest and Liverpool at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.
The former Arsenal and Aston Villa star has said that it is a hard game to call and has backed Liverpool to win 2-1.
Forest are 17th in the Premier League table at the moment with 24 points from 26 matches, four points above third-from-bottom Luton Town, who have played 25 games.
Meanwhile, Liverpool currently find themselves at the top of the league table with 60 points from 26 matches, a point clear of second-placed and defending champions Manchester City.
Merson told SportsKeeda: “People might say it’s a blessing in disguise for Forest to get knocked out of the FA Cup, but I don’t agree with that. As far as Liverpool are concerned, they have a lorry load of injuries with a handful of young kids featuring regularly for them, but sooner or later, it might be a game too far for the young lads.
“This is a hard game, but I think Liverpool could have a bunch of senior players back in the squad for this one, with Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo expected to play some role in this game. I doubt Klopp will rush his key players back, especially with the Manchester City game on the horizon, but he’ll have them on standby in case this game doesn’t go as planned.
“Their young players have been outstanding so far, but they can’t play against Man City, with all due respect to them, so it remains to be seen how Klopp approaches this game in terms of his selection. Nonetheless, I’m going for a Liverpool win, but this is not going to be straightforward for the Reds.
“Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-2 Liverpool.”
My View: Nottingham Forest could beat Liverpool
In my opinion, Nottingham Forest could win against Liverpool at the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
I do not think that Forest, who are facing a points deduction, will be able to beat Liverpool by two or three goals, but Nuno’s side could eke out a narrow 1-0 or 2-1 victory.
Liverpool have injury problems, and manager Jurgen Klopp is likely to use some of the younger players in the squad.
I know that Forest are not winning matches, but they are not getting absolutely hammered. The Reds went down by a single goal to Manchester United in the FA Cup in midweek and scored two goals in the defeat to Aston Villa.
Forest are at home for the match against Liverpool, and I think that if they are defensively tight and take their chances, then they could win against the Premier League leaders.
