Man Utd draw condemns Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to damning record he may never get to change

The draw for the FA Cup quarter-finals has condemned Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to a record he might never get to change.

Liverpool secured safe passage to the last-eight of the competition by beating Southampton 3-0 at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

Youngsters Lewis Koumas and Jayden Danns scored the goals to set up a mouth-watering clash with rivals Manchester United, who squeezed past Nottingham Forest thanks to an 89th minute Casemiro header.

Liverpool will be heavy favourites to beat United at Old Trafford next month, with Jurgen Klopp looking to end his nine-year spell as manager by winning as many trophies as possible.

Liverpool lifted the Carabao Cup last weekend by beating Chelsea at Wembley, while they are currently top of the Premier League table and into the last-16 of the Europa League.

However, even if Klopp goes out with a bang and guides Liverpool to a quadruple in his final season at Anfield, the FA Cup date with United has condemned him to a disappointing record that he might never be able change.

Had Liverpool drawn Manchester City away in the cup, then Klopp would have been handed one final trip to the Etihad Stadium.

That didn’t happen, meaning the German has managed his last game against City at the Etihad Stadium for the foreseeable future at least.

As highlighted on X by journalist Amos Murphy, Klopp has emerged victorious from just two of 12 trips he has made to the Etihad Stadium with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool’s last trip to East Manchester ended in a 1-1 draw last November, with Trent Alexander-Arnold scoring late on to cancel out Erling Haaland’s opener.

Klopp’s record at the Etihad Stadium reads two wins, five draws and five defeats.

Klopp will face City for potentially the final time next month when Liverpool take on the reigning Premier League champions in a top-of-the-table clash at Anfield on March 10.
