Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes his side’s fixture list makes it harder to win the quadruple after winning the Carabao Cup on Sunday afternoon.
A depleted Reds squad did magnificently to keep out Chelsea at Wembley Stadium and made Mauricio Pochettino’s side pay late in extra time as Virgil van Dijk’s header secured League Cup glory. Talk has already turned towards the quadruple with Liverpool still in with a realistic chance of winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League this season.
Focus on the other domestic cup competition begins almost immediately for Liverpool with Championship side Southampton heading to Anfield on Wednesday night in the fifth round. When asked by beIN SPORTS about the prospect of ending his Reds career with four trophies, Klopp admitted it would be difficult.
The German head coach explained: “The quadruple you mentioned, nobody in this country wants to see a quadruple winner that is why they put the next round of the FA Cup just three days after a final. I have no clue how we can line up on Wednesday.
“Maybe Southampton will benefit from that or not, we shall see. I have no idea who we can line up, somebody who can wear a Liverpool shirt could play against Southampton.”
Liverpool’s bid to win their second Premier League title under Klopp is set to go down to the wire with the Reds currently top by just one point after Manchester City won their game in hand on Saturday. Meanwhile, Klopp’s men will face Sparta Praha in the Europa League round of 16 which begins a week on Thursday.
