Chelsea and Liverpool will lock horns in today’s Carabao Cup final, with both teams hoping to get their hands on the first domestic trophy of the season. The occasion will mark a repeat of the 2022 final, when Liverpool overcame the Blues via a penalty shoot-out under the Wembley arch.

Liverpool will go into the match as the overwhelming favourites to claim the spoils, with the Reds currently two points clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table. They will be boosted by the return of Mohamed Salah, who managed to score on his first game back from injury against Brentford last weekend.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have endured a torrid campaign to date and will be the firm underdogs at Wembley this afternoon. However, they will not be short on motivation to get revenge over their Merseyside rivals following their previous Carabao Cup final defeat two years ago.
Will the match go straight to penalties?
In the first five rounds of the Carabao Cup, no extra time was played in the event of a draw after 90 minutes with a penalty shoot-out determining the winner. However, this will not be the case in today’s final.
If the scores are level at the end of the match, there will be an extra 30 minutes of play that will be split into two 15-minute halves. A penalty shoot-out will then be required if there is still no winner at the end of extra time.
