Jurgen Klopp H2H record against Mauricio Pochettino

Liverpool take on Chelsea this Sunday in the Carabao Cup final. The Reds are aiming to repeat what they achieved two years ago, while also kickstarting the first part of a Quadruple charge.

Of course, there’s a long way to go before they’ve managed that.

But this also carries special meaning as Liverpool can deliver a trophy for Jurgen Klopp in his final season in charge at Anfield. The German will step down at the end of the campaign but Sunday offers the opportunity to send him away with a medal.

Mauricio Pochettino stands in his way and Chelsea have their own motivations for delivering the trophy. This can be a building block for their enormous project – here’s a chance to prove that the money they’ve spent does serve a purpose.

So how does Klopp typically do against Pochettino? We’ve looked into the data to find out.

Klopp first faced Pochettino back in October 2015 – his very first game in charge of Liverpool. That ended 0-0 and the first three meetings between the two all ended in draws.

Since then, Klopp’s record has been fantastic. In the subsequent 10 games, he’s won seven, drawn twice and lost on just one occasion – 4-1 at Tottenham Hotspur.

That’s the only time Pochettino has ever defeated Klopp in 13 attempts.

They’ve twice met in cup competitions, too. Klopp got the better of Pochettino in both – first, a 2-1 win in the 2016 Carabao Cup Fourth Round, then 2-0 in the 2018 UEFA Champions League final.

Klopp is undefeated against Pochettino in his last seven games, winning five of those. It’s also worth mentioning that the first meeting (that 0-0 in the German’s first game) is the only time his team has failed to score against the Argentine boss.
