Bayer Leverkusen are not even thinking about the ‘headache’ of losing Xabi Alonso to Liverpool this summer, and there are ‘no indications’ as yet he will be on the way.
That’s according to AS, who cover the ‘domino effect’ on the benches this summer as Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona all look for new managers.
The newspaper explains that the upcoming vacancies at all three clubs are ‘causing speculation to skyrocket’ at this moment in time, with much of that focused on Alonso.
He’s been shining at Bayer Leverkusen, who he has led to the top of the Bundesliga this season, which has made him the ‘most coveted figure’ on the market.
Reports have indicated he is Liverpool’s favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp, with some even believing a deal has already been done, but AS say ‘there are no indications’ that is the case or that he will not continue at Leverkusen next season.
His future is a ‘headache’ that has not ye been considered by the German club and Alonso has himself been insisting he has no news to offer.
So, while ‘everything indicates’ Alonso is the one being chosen by Liverpool, who want a coach ‘in line with Liverpool’s history’, it seems Leverkusen aren’t even concerning themselves at this moment in time.
The Spaniard has a contract and that protects the German league leaders, even if the big clubs in Europe do come and try to lure him away.
