Chelsea will have a slight edge over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final due to an obscure rule which means the Blues, being first in alphabetical order, will be considered the ‘home’ side and get to use the home dressing rooms at Wembley on Sunday.
This will be the third time in three years that these two teams face off in a final, with Liverpool having won both the 2022 Carabao Cup and FA Cup. In those matches too, Chelsea were the ‘home’ side.
Despite this advantage, Chelsea’s manager Mauricio Pochettino believes Liverpool have the upper hand. He said: “For me, Liverpool are favourites because they have the experience to compete like a team and be involved in different finals,
“For many of our players, it’s maybe their first final, so that’s why I’d make them favourites. He’s (Klopp) one of the best, with Pep, coaches in the world. He’s clever enough.
“He knows that when you play a final, circumstances can happen. If they are not favourites, we are not favourites. They have the experience to compete like a team and be involved in different finals.”
