How does Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund compare to Liverpool ace Darwin Nunez
Both Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund and Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez have been in fine form this season. 24-year-old Nunez has recorded a total of 13 goals and 11 assists through all competitions this season. On the other hand, 21-year-old Hojlund has recorded 13 goals and two assists.
While the Danish striker was having trouble getting it going during the first half of the season, 2024 has blessed him with a rich vein of form. Nunez, on the other hand, has found ways to produce even on his bad days. This is best reflected by his 11 assists.
But that’s not to say that Hojlund doesn’t contribute when he’s not scoring. Even during his goal drought, the 21-year-old showed great character by finding ways to be involved.
As time goes on and these two stars develop, they will be setting the Premier League on fire. This of course opens the door for comparison by the people, questions will arise, and they’re right to ask. It has to be considered who will have the higher ceiling in football. Let’s have a look.
Young Rasmus Hojlund or Darwin Nunez? Who has the higher ceiling in the game?
Is Liverpool’s young stud better than Rasmus Hojlund?
As things stand, Darwin Nunez is better than Rasmus Hojlund. However, we have to take into account that the Liverpool forward is older than the Danish striker. Hojlund has had three fewer years of experience when compared to 24-year-old Nunez.
This is made clear by the number of games they’ve played. Nunez has played 72 more games in comparison to the Dane. Owing to this, the Uruguayan has 39 more goals and 21 more assists when compared to Hojlund’s career tallies.
Now, if we have a look at the international stats of both these players, things get interesting. The Dane has scored seven goals in 10 appearances, while Nunez has only scored eight goals for Uruguay in 22 appearances.
This clearly shows that Hojlund can keep up with Nunez despite being three years younger than him. While this may make a case for Rasmus, we also have to consider the kind of environment these players are in. Because the correct environment is crucial to these players’ growth.
Who is in a better environment to thrive in?
Rasmus Hojlund came to Manchester United under the ownership of the Glazers. This was a stressful time for the club, but the young Dane still managed to thrive in the Champions League. However, his goal drought in the Premier League was a cause for concern.
Then came along Sir Jim Ratcliffe or as fans like to call him Sir “Him” Ratcliffe and Hojlund hasn’t missed the mark since. In fact, during United’s last outing, the young Dane became the youngest player in Premier League history to score a goal in six consecutive games. The last person to achieve this feat was Joe Willock back in 2021.
Now that INEOS is here, Manchester United finally has some structure. All the positives surrounding the club will likely be a big boost to his development. Hopefully, the Dane will be able to use this opportunity to its full advantage.
On the other hand, Darwin Nunez’s life is about to change as Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp is set to leave the club after nine years at the helm. With a new coach arriving during the summer, a lot could change around the Uruguayan.
However, to his advantage, Nunez has a lot of quality players around him that he can learn from. Mo Salah and Luis Diaz are both seniors in terms of experience and are amazing people to learn from. The Egyptian is also one of the best players in the world.
But, Klopp’s departure will likely have an impact on the team’s structure as well. A lot of players could be on their way out this summer, which could harm team chemistry along with Nunez’s development.
