Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah is in no rush to move to Saudi Arabia and could now prolong his stay on Merseyside in what would be a huge boost for the club.
The Reds rejected a widely reported £150million bid last summer for Salah from Al-Ittihad. But Saudi clubs retain huge interest in the Egyptian and are planning massive offers. So they’re going into the main transfer window at the end of the season.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Salah wants to keep playing at the top level and challenge for football’s most prestigious honours.
As revealed by Football Insider last month (30 January), the 31-year-old had been open to a move to the Middle East with his current Liverpool contract set to expire in the summer of 2025.
However, the forward’s updated stance opens the door not only for him to stay at Liverpool and see out his contract but also, tantalisingly, to even sign an extension in what would be a surprise move.
It comes at a time of impending backroom upheaval at Anfield.
SALAH EXPECTED TO STAY IN LIVERPOOL FOR MORE TIME YET:
Long-term manager Jurgen Klopp has announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season along with most of his coaching staff.
It is in belief that Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group will push even more now to keep Salah at the club after Klopp’s exit.
Salah is considered by many to be the Reds’ best player, having bagged 18 goals and nine assists across all competitions this season.
Across 332 appearances for the Merseyside giants, he has remarkable numbers of 204 goals and 88 assists.
Liverpool sit top of the Premier League table. They’re just two points ahead of Man City. However, they do have a game in hand.
They are next in action against 19th-place Burnley at Anfield on Saturday afternoon (10 February).
