Liverpool have as many as nine players out injured ahead of their Premier League game against Luton Town in midweek and the Carabao Cup final game against Chelsea at Wembley this weekend.
Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were forced off before half-time in Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Brentford this weekend as well as Darwin Nunez who scored a brilliant goal against the Bees also looked like he was in some pain before being withdrawn.
Jota’s injury is thought to be serious but manager Klopp played down the impact by insisting he had no idea after the win at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Klopp told reporters: “Yeah but it’s normal. I didn’t speak to him, I more or less get carried around the stadium to do interviews!
“I don’t know how it developed during the second half. I saw him at half-time, he was all right-ish but I don’t know what happened exactly.”
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker who missed this weekend’s game entirely is expected to return for the final on February 25th as well as Dominik Szoboszlai who has been battling a thigh problem.
Liverpool boss Klopp confirmed he was hoping to have Szoboszlai for the Cup final: “I think with Dom, it will be around [the Carabao Cup]. We will see how it exactly works. I would say, I’m not sure [he] has a chance for the final, but maybe.”
Striker Nunez, despite being in some pain at the end, is expected to be ready for the game even if Liverpool will have to be cautious with him for the league game against Luton in midweek.
