Harvey Elliott says Liverpool will not push themselves too far in the Premier League title race against Manchester City and Arsenal. Manchester United returned to the top of the Premier League on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Burnley. Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez scored the hosts’ goals in the win at Anfield. Liverpool leveled the scores at 1-1 in the first half when Dara O’Shea’s header blocked Jota’s first attempt. Klopp made changes at half-time, including replacing Elliott with Trent Alexander-Arnold, while the Reds’ vice-captain sat out as a precaution.
Elliott’s introduction changed the game as the Reds’ number 19 provided assists for Diaz and Nunes, who found the back of the net. Now Elliott has spoken about the win that took Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League. The 20-year-old was quick to praise Burnley for giving Liverpool a difficult game.
Elliott emphasized the confidence his return will bring to him and the rest of the team, but was quick to play down the title race with a third of the season remaining. Liverpool are two points clear of Manchester City with a game in hand against Brentford later this month.
Arsenal are five points behind the Reds but travel to West Ham on Sunday. “They (Burnley) came here with a clear game plan and it was very difficult for us today, just like at home,” Elliott told Sky Sports.”This is a very strong team and the way they play is clear. I dug deeper again and found all three places in one place. We were clinical when we needed to be and got the three very important points.
