Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool deserved a penalty in their win over Burnley. The Reds won 3-1 but needed all three points to go top of the Premier League. Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunes were all targeted. After Jota scored the opener in the 31st minute of the first half, Liverpool were awarded a penalty when Portugal international Hannes Delcroix collapsed under pressure.
Klopp’s frustration led to him receiving a yellow card, while Burnley manager Vincent Kompany was booked in the second half. Referee Tim Robinson sent off the player and received a total of seven cautions. There have been reports of football lawyers taking legal action against the IFAB for player abuse and blue cards. According to Klopp, if this law is implemented, the game will be like the “Wild West”. Liverpool manager: “I don’t know. Did anyone see the situation? Could it have been a penalty when Diogo went down?” I want to know. [It was] from my perspective. It’s in a box and that’s fine by me.”Then the fourth referee told me: ‘VAR will check’. VAR was not an option because it was not clear or obvious at the time.“One thing he (the referee) saw was that it wasn’t good enough to get a penalty and that triggered my head.
Imagine today’s game. We’re in the middle of the blue card [debate], so it’s going to be the Wild West!“Honestly, I think the cards are going to fly. “At one point we had seven players on the field because everyone had a blue card.”
