Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur target Lloyd Kelly has rejected several bids from AFC Bournemouth and his current contract with the south coast club is set to expire at the end of the season. The 25-year-old joined the Cherries from Bristol City in the summer of 2019, with the Robins receiving a £13m fee, while Kelly signed a long-term deal with Bournemouth. However, that contract now expires this summer and the player has refused to sign a new deal, leaving Bournemouth at risk of losing the player on a free transfer.
As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool and Tottenham are monitoring Kelly’s situation ahead of the summer window, when both clubs can sign the player on a free transfer. Kelly is in no rush to make a decision on his future and says he could still agree a new deal with the Cherries. He can agree a temporary deal with clubs outside England, taking into account the interest of top clubs in Italy and Germany.Bournemouth rejected Tottenham’s £20m bid in the summer transfer window, with Kelly reportedly earning £7m. He has made 130 appearances for the south coast club since joining from Bristol City in 2019.
Centre-back is an area Liverpool will look to strengthen this summer with Joel Matip nearing the end of his contract. Virgil van Dijk – Joe Gomez, Ibrahim Konate and Jarrell Kwanza – are out of contract in 2025 and remain as centre-backs at Anfield, and if Liverpool are set for life, a free transfer for Kelly could be an attractive proposition. Without Jurgen Klopp.
However, there appears to be strong interest in the player from several other clubs and the Reds will be competing for his signature if they attempt to sign him this summer.
