Patrick Mahomes wasn’t interested in the on-field conversation his family was having when he addressed the media on opening night of Super Bowl LVIII on Monday. The night before the Chiefs flew from Kansas City to Las Vegas, Mahomes’ father was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Texas.
This is the third arrest for Patrick Mahomes Sr., who was jailed for 40 days over the weekend for one of his 2018 murders. If convicted, the 54-year-old could face two to 10 years in prison under Texas law.The Chiefs quarterback told reporters Monday that his father is “doing well,” but would not comment further on the situation.
“I’m going to keep it with my family because it’s a family thing,” Mahomes told reporters, according to Pro Football Talk. “That’s all I have to say.”It remains to be seen whether Mahomes Sr., who was released from the Smith County Jail Sunday morning on $10,000 bond, will make it to Allegiant Stadium Sunday night to watch the Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers. A victory in Kansas City marks the third Super Bowl victory of the young Mahomes’ NFL career.
