‘A very good manager’ – Cesc Fabregas backs Liverpool appointing 42-year-old player as manager.
Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes Xabi Alonso will succeed if he replaces Jurgen Klopp in the Liverpool dugout.
The Bayer Leverkusen boss is favorite to take over at Anfield this summer and when asked if his former Spain team-mate has what it takes to manage Liverpool, Fabregas replied:”He’s a very smart guy. He’s been there. He has done it all and knows the standards set by Liverpool. The public loves him and I think he is a very good coach. He has a good idea.
He may play differently, but I think he has the ability to adapt. “I saw him when he was manager at Real Sociedad B and now at Bayer Leverkusen.”“He does a lot of different things. He can adapt to situations and different players and has the right mindset. Although he is young, the good thing is that his thoughts are very clear.
He is an intelligent, stable and kind person. So it’s a big shout, but I agree he can do it.Alonso has a great record. The 42-year-old has won 63.64% of his 66 games since taking over as Leverkusen manager midway through last season. His side are unbeaten in the Bundesliga this season and sit top of the table, two points above reigning champions Bayern Munich.
Liverpool are taking a big riskUnlike Klopp, who won two Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund and reached the Champions League before arriving at Anfield, Alonso does not have the same CV.If he wins his first league title with Leverkusen, concerns about his lack of experience will be alleviated, but FSG will still take a calculated bet on the young manager.
