Liverpool’s injury problems continue to plague the squad, with further setbacks for several key players. Despite the return of Thiago Alcantara, the Reds lost 3-1 at Arsenal. The match continues with Ibrahima Konate receiving two yellow cards and Dominik Szoboszlai missing the trip through injury.
Jurgen Klopp faces the prospect of Liverpool being without seven players as they prepare for their upcoming game against Burnley.
Let’s take a closer look at the injury updates and possible return dates for some of Liverpool’s key players.
Dominik Szoboszlai: Ahead of the game against Arsenal, there were rumors that Hungary captain Szoboszlai would miss the trip to Liverpool through injury. Klopp confirmed that Szoboszlai aggravated an injury picked up in the New Year’s win against Newcastle United.
His absence is not yet known, but the Hungarian trade index claims he could miss seven or eight games.
Ibrahima Konate: Konate will miss the Burnley game through suspension. Klopp expressed his displeasure with referee Anthony Taylor’s decision to red card Konate, citing inconsistency. But that wasn’t why Liverpool lost the game. It came down to really sloppy play and big mistakes.
Mohamed Salah: Salah’s next game will be against Liverpool after Egypt were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations. Salah is recovering from a hamstring injury and is expected to return against the Burnly or Brentford later this month.
Kostas Tsimikas: Tsimikas is close to returning to the Liverpool squad after a six-week layoff. In December, Bukayo broke his left vertebra in a collision with Saka. Klopp said Tsimikas is fit and awaiting clearance to resume full training, but Andy Robertson is also fit and available.
Stefan Bajcetic: Bajcetic has had a disappointing spell in his Liverpool career due to several injuries. After a strong debut season, he suffered an adductor stress reaction and later calf problems. The timing of his full return to training is unknown.
Joel Matip: Matip is currently recovering from surgery for an ACL injury. The 32-year-old defender is likely to miss the rest of the season and could have played his last game for the club as his contract expires in the summer.
Ben Dock: Dock is out with a serious knee injury. He tore his lateral meniscus while playing for Liverpool U21s and subsequently underwent surgery. The time of his return is unknown.
