After a quiet January transfer window, Liverpool are considering their options for what could be a very busy summer. Not only will the club look to sign a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, but they will also be preparing to part ways with Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian was a hot topic of rumor last summer, with Saudi Arabia offering a hefty sum to persuade Liverpool to part with their star striker. Al Ittihad offered £150m for the 31-year-old but their dream was rejected. However, Liverpool are preparing a new bid at the end of the season and a possible replacement if he leaves.
There is no confirmation if Salah will leave this summer, but with his contract expiring in June 2025, the only two options that could help Liverpool are extending his tenure or cashing out. This will end your contract and allow you to leave for free.
Next year is out of the question. Spanish media outlet Fichajes reported: “Reds target two stars to join Barcelona if Salah leaves.” Liverpool are taking an “active stance” and have identified both Rafinha and Ansu Fati as possible targets. Rafinha joined Barcelona for £55m from Leeds United in 2022, scoring 10 goals and providing 12 assists in his debut season.
His place in the team is now “not guaranteed” and Liverpool are “on the table” to bring him in as Salah’s replacement. The report claims that Liverpool are “preparing a threatening bid” for Rafinha. The fee in question has not been disclosed and it is unclear whether Barcelona will agree to their offer.
Fathy is another option for Liverpool, currently on loan at Premier League rivals Brighton. His performance for the Seagulls this season will determine whether Liverpool consider him a suitable replacement for Salah. Fathy has made just 18 appearances for Brighton in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
The 21-year-old is a left winger by trade, but can also play as a center forward and attacking midfielder. Rafinha can play on both wings, but is more comfortable on the right.
