Ian Wright has hit out at Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher for their celebrations after Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday (February 4). The Gunners legend wants pundits to stop ruining the sport and for players and managers to enjoy the moment.
In a video from X (formerly Twitter), Wright said he didn’t understand the backlash to the celebration after Sunday’s win.
He emphasized that all this was due to the joy of their great victory. A 60-year-old man said:“My negative attitude towards the manager, what he did, apart from celebrating the goal and congratulating the team, these great teams, teams that tried to beat Liverpool and Manchester City.
Is it because we are celebrating? That’s because Martin Odegaard takes a picture of Stuart, a lifelong shooter. This person has supported Arsenal since he was 5 years old. It was such a ridiculous thing. He added:”Just taking pictures in front of North Shore, what’s wrong with the captain doing that? It’s nothing to do with us beating Liverpool, it’s just an opportunity.
” Why is everyone trying to kill joy? Don’t kill your joy. There’s still a lot of season left. If Arsenal do anything, they will be under pressure. I feel like we have no joy.
Sunday’s win moved the Gunners two points clear of leaders Liverpool (51). They are currently second in the table but could drop to third if Manchester City beat Brentford on Monday night.
What Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher had to say about Arsenal’s celebrations Rio Ferdinand appeared on the Vibe With Five podcast and accused Mikel Arteta of running around the Emirates Stadium after the win. Ferdinand claimed the Gunners were celebrating as if they had won the league (via Metro):“I thought Arsenal lost just as your man won the league!
Your manager is walking around the [stadium]! Your manager took 10,000 steps today and walked the ground after the win! Where is this going? “May be? About?”Jamie Carragher was also in a foul mood after the Gunners beat his former team Liverpool.
Specialist Martin Odegaard was asked to enter the tunnel after the win and avoid contact with club photographers on the pitch. “Go down the tunnel, you won the game, three points, you did a great job in the title race. He’s in a tunnel,” Carragher said (via Sky Sports).
