Jamie Carragher has now discussed some of Liverpool’s weaknesses following their defeat to Arsenal. Jurgen Klopp’s side failed to make any headway in the first half at the Emirates, a familiar scene from FA Cup action a few weeks ago.
After Liverpool equalized through poor Arsenal defending, it looked like the game might go the same way. Klopp’s side caught fire in the second half and gained a lot of confidence from Arsenal’s mistakes. But an agonizing moment between two of Liverpool’s most reliable players, Alisson and Virgil van Dijk, completely changed the course of proceedings. Jamie Carragher returned to the Sky Sports studio after the match to comment on the post-match situation and Van Dijk’s main weaknesses.
Carragher was very angry at the unexpected mistake he made. Liverpool have a ‘very good’ player who could benefit from Jurgen Klopp’s departure – and he just showed why.
But the pundit felt he had seen the same quality in the Liverpool captain’s game before. Jamie Carragher explains Virgil van Dijk’s weaknesses after Liverpool’s loss to Arsenal. After full-time, Carragher spoke about how well the pair have performed this season. He said: “There are a few weaknesses in Van Dijk’s game, but one of them is that he tends to hold his position too much.”Van Dijk and Alisson have been outstanding this season and that’s one of the reasons they’re back, but it’s been disappointing.
“Of course, this should be nothing more than an isolated incident. Any talk of an end to Liverpool’s title hopes may be premature. This is a rare error. The outstanding defender is quick to react in Van Dijk, who appears to be worth every penny of the £75m fee paid by Liverpool.
Likewise, Allison blocks the bad nights from her mind.So Carragher may be right in his conclusion after Liverpool’s difficult night at Arsenal, but he also believes it is a short-term problem.
