Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted Jurgen Klopp has taken “a lot” during his tenure at Liverpool but the next step is to emulate his trophy success.
Klopp and Arteta meet at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with the top-flight visitors able to go eight points clear of the hosts with a win. The German has announced he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season after taking over in 2015.During that time, he led Liverpool to the Premier League title, the Champions League title, the FA Cup and the League Cup. Arsenal were leaders for 248 days before moving to Manchester City last season, but realistically both clubs will need to beat Liverpool on Sunday if they are to retain their cup wins this season.
As he prepares for his final meeting in the dugout, Arteta has highlighted what he learned from his success in England in the form of a battle with Klopp on the wing. “A lot of things, especially the uniqueness of his team, the uniqueness of the club,” he said. “It’s very clear, I’m sure he leaves that mark on the club. “The team (every player) has a very clear intention and attitude, no matter where they play. I like what he has done at Liverpool,” he said.
Arteta also believes the next step for the team he is building at Arsenal is to regularly win major trophies, like Klopp’s Liverpool, who grabbed their first goal in north London. “The first objective is the pride of our people. “I’m proud of the club, proud of my team, proud of the way we represent the club and how we’re having fun with our ambitions,” added the Spaniard.
The team (each player) has very clear intentions and actions, no matter where they play. I like what he did at Liverpool Klopp’s art“I think we’ve given both of those things over the years. Maybe it’s more than they bargained for. “But the demands have to get higher and higher: to win big trophies, to win big trophies consistently and to be at the top.
