Some senior Liverpool players are upset that the club did not announce Klopp’s transfer sooner.
Jurgen Klopp shocked the football world by announcing in an emotional video message that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. The announcement has created uncertainty over the futures of some of Liverpool’s key players, with Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold all having just 12 months left on their summer contracts.
Van Dijk added fuel to the fire when the media asked where his future lay. Asked if he will be part of Liverpool’s new era, Van Dijk was worried, according to The Times: “That’s a big question. I don’t know.
Liverpool fans seem to have more to worry about as The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that some in the Liverpool squad are unhappy with the way the club have handled the situation.”They had no advance warning. “I made a suggestion that all the senior players wouldn’t be too happy about, but I think if you’re Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, you’ll be damned if you do and damned if you don’t,” he explained.
Orstein came out.”If you tell them, there are consequences and you lose control, or if you don’t tell them, the players get upset that they weren’t forewarned.”Ornstein also confirmed that there have been no serious discussions regarding contract extensions with the three aforementioned players.
Under normal circumstances, Liverpool would have resolved their contracts or would have been in the process of resolving their contracts,” Ornstein said.“It’s a big call for Van Dijk because he will be 33 this summer, Mo Salah is also 30 and the Saudi Pro League is a big target. “Alexander-Arnold is in good form so many clubs will want him if he is available.”
