Liverpool are considering a number of potential managers to replace Jurgen Klopp after he confirmed he will leave Anfield at the end of the season. Liverpool will be hoping that the next manager to replace Jurgen Klopp this summer does not suffer the same fate as David Moyes and Unai Emery. Both Moyes and Emery had brilliant careers at Manchester United and Arsenal but underperformed under Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger respectively.
They have proved the impossible and it remains to be seen if Liverpool’s next manager can do better. There have been many names associated with this record, but two that stand out are Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi. Anfield icon Alonso is enjoying his first success in senior management and has already been linked with the top job in European football. But De Zerbi had to wait to receive such a high price.
The 44-year-old is in his seventh job in a 10-year managerial career but has truly found his place at Brighton after spells in Italy and his native Ukraine. De Jervy managed Brighton in European football for the first time last year, having replaced Graham Potter in September 2022. The Seagulls, who finished seventh again this season, are one of the Europa League favorites alongside Liverpool and Alonso’s club Leverkusen.
They made the playoffs with ease and would appreciate the opportunity to go deeper into the competition.
Liverpool played Brighton at the Amex Stadium in October and the two sides drew 2-2. Luiz headed in a free-kick after tripping Kauro Mitoma was brought down by Trent Alexander-Arnold to give the hosts a point. De Zerby admitted they were lucky the decision went in their favour, but was furious a penalty was not awarded for a handball on Virgil van Dijk. This led to a lively exchange with Klopp, but De Zervi was full of praise for his team-mate afterwards. “I love Klopp.
He can do what he wants because I have a lot of respect for him and I think he is one of the best coaches in the world,” he said. “I like his attitude and I agree with 99% of what he says. I thought it was a clear penalty and I spoke to the referee.” But I think [Alexander-Arnold] made no mistake with our second goal.
I am honest and I told Jürgen what I think and what I think.’Praising De Zervi’s achievements, Klopp said: “I have to say I couldn’t respect him more for what he has done. I really believe in him. I am a football fan. When one mentions his impact on football, it cannot be understated.
