Former Liverpool star Naby Keita has sent a heartfelt message to Jurgen Klopp. The Guinea international admitted he cried after learning the news of his coach’s departure. The German manager hit the headlines on Friday (26 January) after deciding to leave the Reds at the end of the season. Klopp has made it clear he is running out of energy and insisted he will not be in charge of any club for a year after this season.
Werder Bremen midfielder Keita has responded to Klopp’s announcement that he is leaving, saying Klopp is like a father to him. The former Reds told RMC Sport:”I cried when I heard this news. I was like a son to him at Liverpool and considered him a father. “During his time at Anfield, Keita scored 11 goals and provided 7 assists in 129 appearances in all competitions. He won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup with the Merseysiders.
However, the Guinean footballer’s career at the club has been riddled with injuries. In the 2022-2023 season, Keita missed 20 matches for the Reds due to injury. The midfielder has struggled to stay fit for Bundesliga side Werder Bremen this season as well. He has only made three appearances for Germany and played 80 minutes this season.
