The Green Bay Packers have another key player hitting free agency this off season in Keisean Nixon. He has started many games this season in place of injured quarterback Jair Alexander. Nixon was very useful on special teams for the Packers this season, earning first-team All-Pro selection for the second straight season as a special teams starter.
Special teams are very important in the NFL. This is one of the three most important stages of the game. When Nixon was named to the All-Pro team for the second straight season, he told Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com:“It always starts with a rebound block, and for me, my performance was a sign of my work. I tried it for the first time last year.
And (I used) All Pro. In my freshman year, I thought I would have the same opportunities as last year, but I didn’t come close. But I still had a good year. He was a blessed man. I’m happy.”He led the league for a consecutive season with 782 yards in the first quarter. The last Green Bay Packers to do so was Al Carmichael in 1956-57.
While there are questions about him at the cornerback position, there is no question about what Nixon brings as a returning starter. General manager Brian Gutekunst will have to find a way to bring him back next season.
‘Keisean Nixon’s stats from last season with the Green Bay Packers
Green Bay bounced back from the upset. Nixon is only 26 years old and could be very useful for the Packers next season. He has 80 tackles, 0.5 sacks, one interception and six pass deflections this season. Nixon was the third cornerback on the roster this season, but was expected to take on a bigger role when called upon.
Nixon should be the third cornerback moving forward, and Green Bay must find a way to select another starting cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft. He must maintain his role on special teams, and it will be very difficult to replaced.
