One of the top priorities for the Green Bay Packers right now is finding a new defensive coordinator. When the Packers handed Joe Barry a brief in search of a tight end, several names came up as possible replacements. One of the names that kept coming up before Barry was fired as a big defensive prospect for Green Bay was Ejiro Evero, now the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers.
Evero was one of the players lost to Barry in the Packers’ 2021 pursuit of D.C., but the door is once again open for Evero to work out in Green Bay after Barry’s departure. Well, not so fast. First, Evero is hoping for a promotion to Carolina, as he just completed his second interview with the Panthers.
Evero plays in D.C. for the Green Bay Packers. There is no doubt which job he would choose between performance and the head coaching job at Carolina. Even if he doesn’t land his dream job in Carolina, it could still keep him from joining the Packers.Via Matt Schneidman and Dianna Russini of The
Athletic:LaFleur tapped Barry over Evero in 2021, and Evero, now 43, is interviewing head coaches as the Panthers’ defensive coordinator. If he doesn’t get the head coaching job and new Panthers head coach Evero is named defensive coordinator, Evero could prevent Evero from applying for another Packers job. Carolina was a relative bright spot for the Panthers in 2023.
As the Panthers’ offense continued to fail downfield, Evero’s defense did its best to give the team as good a shot as possible downfield.
The Panthers are 29th in the league in points allowed (24.5), but fourth in overall defense (293.0).
