Mark Pope and Kentucky basketball have received encouraging news on the recruiting trail, and the latest developments could be the beginning of something significant for the Wildcats’ 2027 recruiting class.
Kentucky has faced questions about its ability to consistently land elite high school prospects under Pope. While the coach has found success in the transfer portal, bringing established talent such as Milan Momcilovic to Lexington, building a strong foundation through high school recruiting remains an important priority.
Now, two highly rated prospects have put Kentucky in an encouraging position, giving Pope and his staff an opportunity to make a statement.
Kentucky Emerges as a Favorite for Elite Center
The first major development involves Cheriff Millogo, a towering center who could become a significant addition to Kentucky’s frontcourt.
On3 recruiting analyst Joe Tipton entered an official prediction on Monday, October 26, favoring the Wildcats to land Millogo. The 7-foot-5, 250-pound center originally comes from West Africa and currently plays at the high school level in California.
Millogo is rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports and ranks among the nation’s top 50 players, while ESPN places him inside its top 10.
His incredible size alone makes him an intriguing target, but Kentucky must still compete with programs such as Arkansas, Arizona, North Carolina and Louisville.
The encouraging news is that Millogo recently visited Lexington, and the visit reportedly went well.
Kentucky’s hiring of assistant coach Alfred Aboya could also help. Aboya previously coached at NBA Academy Africa and has connections to Millogo, potentially providing the Wildcats with a valuable recruiting advantage.
Although no commitment date has been announced, Kentucky appears to be in a strong position.
Five-Star Guard Also Puts Kentucky in Contention
The Wildcats received another boost when Adan Diggs announced his final four schools.
According to Tipton, the five-star combo guard is choosing between Kentucky, Arkansas, Arizona and USC, with a commitment expected in November.
Diggs stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 180 pounds. He averaged 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per game on the Nike EYBL circuit, demonstrating his ability to impact games in several ways.
247Sports ranks him as the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2027 class, making him one of Kentucky’s most important recruiting targets.
Landing Diggs would give Pope a highly regarded guard capable of strengthening the team’s future backcourt.
What Happens Next Could Define Kentucky’s Recruiting Class
Kentucky already has four-star forward Ryan Hampton committed for 2027. Adding Millogo and Diggs would give Pope three promising prospects with different strengths and considerable potential.
However, predictions and finalist lists do not guarantee commitments. Kentucky must still finish both recruitments against strong competition.
If Pope can turn these opportunities into signings, he could answer some of the criticism surrounding his high school recruiting and give Big Blue Nation a reason to believe the program is moving in the right direction.
The Wildcats have momentum. Now comes the biggest question: Can Mark Pope close the deal?
