Kentucky and Gonzaga have officially decided to end their six-year basketball series earlier than expected.
According to multiple reports, both programs mutually agreed to cancel the final two scheduled games of the series. The Wildcats were originally set to host Gonzaga in Lexington during the 2026 season before traveling to Spokane for the finale in 2027.
The move gives both schools an opportunity to reassess future scheduling priorities as college basketball schedules continue evolving with major neutral-site events and increased conference demands.
The series produced several memorable matchups over the last few years. Gonzaga won the first two meetings — first in Spokane in November 2022 and later in Lexington in February 2024. Kentucky then answered with a dramatic 90-89 overtime victory in Seattle during Mark Pope’s first season in December 2024.
Gonzaga reclaimed momentum in the most recent meeting, delivering a dominant 94-59 win over Kentucky in Nashville in December 2025.
With the series now officially over, Gonzaga finishes with a 3-2 edge all-time against Kentucky in these matchups. Kentucky’s other victory against the Bulldogs came in Maui back in 2002, where the Wildcats secured an 80-72 win.
Even without Gonzaga remaining on the schedule, Kentucky still has several major games lined up for the 2026-27 season, including matchups against Kansas in the Champions Classic, North Carolina in the CBS Sports Classic, and Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The end of the Kentucky-Gonzaga series closes the chapter on one of college basketball’s most entertaining recent non-conference rivalries.
