Tyran Stokes, the No. 1 ranked player in the 2026 recruiting class, is set to make his long-awaited college decision on Tuesday, April 28, according to multiple sources.
The five-star small forward from Rainier Beach (WA), standing 6-foot-7, has narrowed his final choices to three programs: Kentucky, Oregon, and Kansas. His announcement will bring closure to one of the most closely watched recruitments in recent memory.
Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Stokes has built a reputation as one of the most physically dominant and versatile prospects in high school basketball. His blend of size, athleticism, and scoring ability has made him a top priority for elite college programs across the country.
Stokes has also made it clear that his decision will go beyond basketball. In a past interview with Rivals, he stressed the importance of finding a program where he feels a personal connection and support system.
“I want to play for someone who really appreciates me outside of the court,” Stokes said. “Someone who is going to talk with me just about how things are going and not just talk basketball all the time. I’m looking for a home, a place that I’m going to feel comfortable.
From a scouting standpoint, Stokes is viewed as a high-upside forward with elite tools. His ability to use his frame and explosiveness to create advantages on the floor makes him a difficult matchup at every level. However, analysts also point to areas of development, including consistency and maintaining a high motor.
“At first glance, with Tyran Stokes, you see the optimal positional size, explosive athleticism, and an ability to create advantages from multiple levels of the floor,” Rivals’ Jamie Shaw noted. “There are things he still needs to refine, but his natural tools give him multiple pathways to reach a very high ceiling.
Now, with his decision just hours away, Kentucky, Oregon, and Kansas await the final answer from the nation’s top recruit.
