The Boston Celtics have made a savvy move in the 2025 NBA Draft, acquiring Kentucky’s Amari Williams via trade after the Orlando Magic selected him 46th overall. The Celtics traded their 32nd pick to the Magic in exchange for the 46th and 57th picks, as well as two future second-round picks.
Williams, a 6-10 center with a 7-foot-6 wingspan, brings defensive versatility and rim protection to the Celtics. He averaged 1.6 blocks and 7.4 rebounds per game during his college career at Kentucky. Analysts praise his skill set as “tailor-made for modern NBA schemes, especially on defense”.
The Celtics also selected VCU guard Max Shulga with the 57th pick. Both Williams and Shulga are expected to join the team on two-way contracts. With this move, the Celtics bolster their frontcourt, adding size and depth behind Jayson Tatum and potentially solidifying their championship aspirations.
