Though it’s mid-May and the college basketball season ended nearly two months ago, Kentucky fans are still keeping a close eye on Otega Oweh. The talented UK guard is in Chicago this week participating in the NBA Draft Combine — the most prominent event of the predraft process.
The Combine brings together the nation’s top prospects for a week of evaluations, including physical measurements, agility drills, competitive scrimmages, and meetings with NBA team representatives. For Oweh, it’s a pivotal opportunity to showcase his abilities and gather feedback that could influence whether he stays in the NBA Draft or returns to college for another season.
Oweh, who transferred to Kentucky and played a key role this past season, has not yet made a final decision on his NBA future. After the Wildcats’ 78–65 loss to Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament on March 28 in Indianapolis, speculation began swirling about whether he would go pro or run it back for another season in Lexington.
While speaking at the Combine, Oweh shared that he’s taking the process seriously and using the experience to make an informed choice. “I’m just trying to stay focused and take in all the feedback I can get,” he said. “I want to make the best decision for myself and my future.”
Oweh’s physical tools and strong two-way play have made him a prospect worth watching. At Kentucky, he brought athleticism, energy, and defensive toughness to the court — traits that could translate well to the NBA level. Scouts are particularly interested in his upside and how his game might develop in a professional setting.
As of now, Oweh has not hired an agent, preserving his college eligibility. He has until the NBA’s withdrawal deadline to officially decide whether to return to school or stay in the draft.
Meanwhile, Kentucky’s coaching staff and fans are awaiting his decision, knowing that Oweh’s return would be a major boost to the team’s roster for the 2025–26 season.
In the meantime, Oweh remains in Chicago, continuing to participate in workouts and interviews that will help shape the next steps in his basketball career.
